I think it would be fun to play someone who is not nice and not likable and doesn’t have many redeeming qualities. There are so many antiheroes on television, and not to get too artsy-fartsy, but as an actor you have to find someone in them to like. I’m not in a raging hurry to do it, but I think it would be fun to play a despicable person.

I need to make sure that when I’m running out to the drugstore I’m not wearing a Biore strip or something. Not that I expect anyone to recognize me, but on the off chance they do, I just don’t want to embarrass myself.

Filming “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” In New York City - August 21, 2015

Ellie Kemper in Redbook Magazine

Jon Hamm & Ellie Kemper at the Today Show

paulapell:

The show is empowering to all the female characters in a way. Is that something conscious?
[Kemper]Well the show is very literal. It’s about young woman who emerged from this horrific tragedy not only intact, but ready to take on new challenges and face the world. And while this certainly could happen to a male as well, this story is about a woman. So I think its a feminist show in terms of looking at each story, each episode, as it highlights different women and their strengths and weaknesses.
