I fight cynicism. It’s too easy. It`s really boring. It’s much harder to be positive and see the wonder of everything. Cynicism is a bunch of people who aren’t as talented as other people, knocking them because they make them feel even more untalented.

I don’t have sleepless nights. I’m not an actor who goes home at the end of the day thinking – shit, shit, I should have done it like this. Every actor works in a different way. There are actors who hate everything they do. I’m not going to name any names but there are actors who, when the director says cut, they go: “Fuck! That was awful.” But I’m not like that – I think everything I do is great [laughs]. I don’t have any judgment at all about how other people work, unless they’re ungenerous towards other actors.
“I still dont like big meaningless blockbusters. I dont think I have been in any particularly. The Star Wars films are the most blockbuster-type type of thing I have been in, but they are also unique in the sense that they are Star Wars.”

I’m a sucker for it. I like playing someone who’s falling in love because I like the sensation of it. People do extraordinary things when they’re falling in love.”

“We were always professional friends anyway, Danny [Boyle] and I. We didn’t hang out together outside the work we made—I think Danny’s a very private man, and I don’t think that’s so unusual with actors and directors. But I’ve missed him and the way he runs the set. He’s certainly gotten some of the best work out of me that I’ve ever done. It’s been a sort of wasted time. I’ve always considered it a shame.”
